Ac Brake Motors

Brake motors are special motors which include a safety mechanism for slowing and stopping the mechical device driven by the motor. The brake is typically a spring-loaded friction disc mounted on the non-drive end of the motor shaft. Any interruption to the motor power supply will result in activation of the springs and a clamping down on the friction disc. In a mechanism driven by alternating current (AC), the brake is directly wired to the motor terminals, thereby reducing the brake reaction time relative to a DC brake motor.
