Thermocouple Wire

A thermocouple wire is made up of two separate, coated wires made of dissimilar metals. The two wires are connected at a sensing location such that a voltage is measured that reflects the temperature difference between the sensing end and the reference end of the wire. The selection of metals is dependent on the absolute temperature and temperature ranges being measured. The insulation on the conductors is typically color coded, however, the color coding scheme is different for the ASNI standard than for the IEC standard.
