Encoders : Magnetic Encoder

An encoder is is any device or method used to translate information from one format to another. In the case of machinery systems, encoders are typically used to convert transducer signals measure position and orientation to a signal that is sent to a processed by a control system. A magnetic encoder is a type of rotary encoder used to measure rotational location. Pieces of magnetic material are fastened to the rotating encoder disk and magnetic sensors are used to detect the material and report the location.
