Flow Meters : Spur Gear Flow Meter

A flowmeter is an instrumentation device used to measure and record the flow rate of a gas or fluid. In a spur gear flowmeter, a pair of spur gears are aligned inside the flow meter chamber. As fluid enters the inlet side of the meter, it is forced around the outside of the gears between the gears and the inner wall of the meter. Because each rotation of the spur gears delivers a specific volume of fluid, the number and speed of the rotations can be measured to compute the volume and flow rate of the fluid passing through the meter.
